Elden Ring new update Patch notes

The Elden Ring patch 1.04 official notes have arrived and it fixes a few big issues for the game. The latest patch is available on all platforms and weighs in at around 5GB, which is pretty hefty for a patch like this.

The biggest change here involves the "Elden Ring Wiki." It's been added to the main menu of the game and can be accessed from there or by pressing "Left" on your D-Pad. This allows you to look up information about items, bosses and more without pausing the game every time you want to look something up.

Patch notes say that there's also a bug fix where certain key characters would appear in an unintended manner. The note doesn't say who these characters are or what they were doing, so we're going to guess that they were floating in midair or something like that.

Latest Updates

The latest patch for FromSoftware's Elden Ring is now available, bringing the game up to version 1.04. While official notes are relatively slim as to what the patch does, it appears to be focused on improving stability and making some minor bug fixes.

The update is around 4GB, and weighs in at 7.8GB on PS5. There are no official patch notes just yet, but the helpful folks at ResetEra have posted a translated version of the Japanese changelog. It looks like a number of bugs have been fixed, as well as some tweaks to balancing and stability improvements.

Version 1.03 was released last week, and had similar aims. That one was around 2GB, with a 3GB download on PS5. It also fixed some crashes and made some balance changes; one of those changes reduced health bars of bosses that were "too easy," so this new patch may bring even more rebalancing based on player feedback now that more people are getting into the game.

Balance Adjustments

In a post on its website, FromSoftware details the changes that come in the 1.04 patch for Elden Ring. On top of the bug fixes and crash issues that the update tackles, it also addresses issues with a handful of bosses who were too difficult to take down or perhaps a little too easy. The patch is already live, so if you're jumping back into Elden Ring now you don't have to wait for it to download before you can get started.

The first major change comes with Nameless King (probably the toughest boss in all of Elden Ring) now having increased damage resistance, which means he'll be able to take more hits from the player before falling down. The studio also altered his flying magic attacks so that they're easier to avoid and shortened their duration. Additionally, FromSoftware reduced his divebomb move's tracking ability with an aim to make it easier for players to dodge, and lastly it made his flying one-handed stab attack less powerful overall.

Sorcery/Incantation

FromSoftware has released the official patch notes for Elden Ring update 1.04. It's not available on all platforms just yet, but you can read them below in full.

The updates are as follows:

Adjusted sorcery/incantation playback issue.

  • Fixed issue where player could use items after being killed by an enemy attack.

  • Fixed issue where the game would occasionally crash when players attempt to perform a specific action when mounted on a creature that can be ridden using an item that can be used while mounted on a creature that can be ridden.

  • Fixed issue where character would occasionally stop interacting with objects after performing a specific action on objects that can be interacted with multiple times.

  • Fixed issue where an infinite loading screen would occur if player tries to load save data after performing a specific action under certain conditions.

  • Adjusted other various gameplay issues.

Weapon Skill

Elden Ring patch 1.04 is rolling out today for PlayStation 4, bringing with it the ability to use the Weapon Skill feature during combat, as well as a host of other bug fixes.

One of the most requested features since Elden Ring's launch was the ability to do Weapon Skills outside of combat mode. Previously, players could only perform a Weapon Skill during combat by pressing L2/LT and R2/RT at the same time. This meant that if your weapon had a skill that was particularly useful for traversal, you'd have to be in a fight before you could use it.

Now, with patch 1.04, you can do those skills at any time by pressing R1/RB with either the left or right analog stick held upwards. So if you want to shoot an arrow while standing still in mid-air like a dorky archer superhero, you can totally do that now! Or if you want to just make sure your peeps are looking fresh when they're out chillin' around town, you can do that too!
